*Artist Statement*

From a young age I engaged in a variety of creative activities such as Theatre, sketching, quilting and scrapbooking. All of these fed a joy in interpreting nature and human interactions. After graduating with a MA in Theatre from Florida State University, I started teaching classes in Communication and Public Speaking in Western Washington University. While I love to teach, I wanted to keep expressing my creativity in other ways. After moving to the PNW, I visited the Tacoma Museum of Glass and found it mesmerizing. Watching the play of light and malleability of glass as the artists worked in the hot shop inspired me to work in glass. I took fused glass classes with Sheri Ten Eyck at Wandering Oaks Gallery in Bellingham. My first piece was the dragonfly, which is why I chose it for my home page. After I created that first piece, I never looked back. My own studio has allowed me to explore nature with flowers, insects and garden stakes as well as larger commissioned pieces. I also create platters, birds, and other pieces for the home. Each time in the studio I explore new ideas and try new techniques. There is always something to learn.

*Biography*

As a small child Jennifer's family moved to Nigeria, providing her with a unique series of experiences. While living there, she visited Kenya, Tanzania and Tunisia. Her love of animals and nature was inspired by her time there and continued in her other travels as an adult. She returned to the US, living in the Midwest, South, Northeast and now the PNW. She continues her travels overseas to Ireland, Greece, Japan, and some areas in Europe. Every area has beauty, whether the sunflowers of Kansas, the lush greenery of Florida, the maple leaves in Vermont, or the Puget Sound and cascade mountains of Washington. Expressing these beautiful moments in glass continues to allow her creativity to bloom.

Enjoy the portfolio of her work located here at her website Dragonfly Glass PNW. Contact her directly if you are interested in her pieces or have ideas for yourself. New pieces will be added to this portfolio as they are created.
